2024 Point Gardner Salmon Purse Seine Test Fishery

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is seeking bids to charter a salmon purse seine fishing vessel for a test fishery at Point Gardner.

The fishing dates are scheduled for June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, and July 24, 2024.

Here are the key details:

  • Purpose: The test fishery aims to evaluate the run strength and timing of pink salmon runs in Districts 9 and 10.
  • Location: The fishing area extends from Point Gardner to Point Brightman along the shore.
  • Vessel Requirements: Interested bidders must have prior experience fishing in this location. The vessel must be equipped with a refrigerated sea water system and have a minimum fish hold capacity of 25 tons.
  • Sampling: Sex ratio sampling will be conducted on 100 pinks and 50 chums from each of the first 7 sets. An average weight per fish must be obtained for both pink and chum salmon.
  • Bidding: Bids should be based on a percentage of the total value of the harvest for all 5 test fishing periods. The maximum award amount is $43,750.
  • Payment: Payment processing will begin once fishing and harvest data are received by the Petersburg ADF&G office.
